About Us

Your Local Veterinary Team

Cowra Veterinary Centre is a long-established veterinary practice in Cowra. The history of the practice goes back to the 1950s when the legendary Merv Foote started providing veterinary services to western New South Wales from his base in Cowra. Cowra Veterinary Centre has been serving the veterinary needs of residents of Cowra and surrounding areas ever since. Current owner Peter Launders has been working at Cowra Veterinary Centre since January 2009 and purchased the practice from Paul Cusack in July 2011. Cowra Veterinary Centre is a mixed practice, meaning we provide veterinary care for a mix of animal species – both small or companion animals (such as dogs and cats) and large animals (such as cattle, sheep and horses). Cowra Veterinary Centre is pleased to offer a wide range of veterinary services, including consultations, farm visits, vaccinations, desexing and other surgeries, microchipping, dental services and X-rays.

Our Services

Cowra Veterinary Centre offers a wide range of veterinary services to Cowra, Canowindra and surrounding areas, catering to both small and large animals. Our small animal veterinary services include vet consultations, vaccinations, microchipping, desexing, dental services and radiology, as well as minor and major animal surgeries. Our clinic in Cowra is well-equipped with an X-ray machine and automatic processor, ultrasound, intravenous fluid pumps, two anaesthetic machines, ultrasonic dental scaler and polisher, hospitalisation, isolation and boarding facilities. We can do a range of laboratory tests in-house and have overnight turnaround for more complicated tests. We stock an extensive range of pet food and preventative health care items (e.g., flea and worm control), and we have an in-house pharmacy to allow immediate dispensing of prescribed medications.

Our large animal services include cattle-related veterinary services such as herd health problems, disease investigation, calvings, bull testing, pregnancy testing and surgery. For horses, our services include geldings, wound repair, colics, lameness and much more. Our large animal services also cover your sheep, goats, alpacas or pigs. We are happy to do farm visits for large animal work and have two fully equipped vehicles to ensure we can help you as soon as possible.

Cowra Veterinary Centre offers an after-hours emergency service until 10pm from Monday to Friday and on most weekends (depending on staff availability and family commitments). If any of your animals, large or small, needs to be seen at night or on the weekend, we will do our best to be there to help. Please call the clinic on 02 6341 3113 and listen to the recorded message for more details. If you call when we are not available, the nearest 24-hour emergency centre is in Canberra. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.
